Story
Dragon Boat Festival(duan, which originated in China, was originally a festival for ancestors of ancient times to sacrifice Dragon ancestors on the auspicious day of "dragon ascending to heaven". It is said that Quyuan, a poet of the State of Chu in the Warring States Period, committed suicide by jumping on the Miluo River at the Dragon Boat Festival. Later, people also took the Dragon Boat Festival as a festival to commemorate Quyuan, and there were also statements in memory of Wu Zixu, Cao E and Jie Zitui. Generally speaking, the Dragon Boat Festival originated from the dragon totem sacrifices of the ancestors of Wu and Yue in the South. It was injected into the summer season of "dispelling diseases and preventing epidemics". The Dragon Boat Festival was regarded as a "bad moon" from the north. It commemorated the memorial contents of historical figures such as Quyuan, and finally formed the cultural connotation of today's Dragon Boat Festival.
Dragon Boat Festival and the Spring Festival, the Qingming Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival are also known as the four traditional Chinese folk festivals. Dragon Boat Festival culture has a wide influence in the world, and some countries and regions in the world also have activities to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. In May 2006, the State Council listed it in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list; since 2008, it has been listed as a national statutory holiday. In September 2009, UNESCO formally approved its inclusion in the List of Representatives of Human Intangible Cultural Heritage, and the Dragon Boat Festival became China's first non-heritage festival in the world.
